Baked Falafel Vegan Hot Dogs

  • ¾ cup red onion, chopped
  • ½ cup parsley
  • ½ cup cilantro
  • 3 cups cooked chickpeas, drained
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • hot dog buns
  • sliced tomatoes, onions, spinach and other toppings of your choice


  1. In food a processor, add onion, parsley and cilantro and pulse to mince. Add chickpeas, all the spices, salt, baking soda and lemon juice. Transfer to a bowl and add sesame seeds and breadcrumbs, mix until combined. Add enough crumbs to make a soft doughy mixture. Chill the mixture in a fringe for about 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 180°C. Shape into balls and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until slightly brown. Take out from the oven.
  3. Assemble your hot dogs with sliced tomatoes, onions and spinach. Top with falafel bolls and serve immediately!
