Easy Chana Masala with Black Olives

Spicy and creamy chickpea masala with a few additional ingredients makes a perfect and satisfying plant-based curry.

  • 1 small white onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas
  • 1 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • fresh parsley, for serving
  • cooked brown rice, for serving


  1. In a large saucepan heat oil and add onions and garlic. Cook for 1 minute. Add in tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes. Add tomato paste, chickpeas, olives and seasonings. Cook for about 10 minutes until the chickpeas are heated through. Serve with brown rice and fresh parsley. Enjoy.
